Friesians on Mackinac

Welcome

Regina G. B. “Ster” (Oege +Pref. x Meier) S – S – S – S +pref.

Regina is our Rapunzel!!! Her mane measures 41 inches long - competing with her 1/2 brother the Approved Stallion Anton 343! She has a luxurious beautiful mane, tail and fetlocks.

Regina is by the famous Preferent Approved Stallion, Oege 267, who is no longer living, and had more Approved sons than any living Friesian Stallion. Also known as being the "hair" man, Oege passes on beautiful heads, long hair, and a strong willingness to work. In addition to producing Anton, he also produced the following approved stallions: Ritse 322, Remmelt 323, Tieme 330, Jitse 361, Lolke 371 and Wibe 402. View a video of Oege 267....

Regina is 10th generation generation from mother stam line 38! Four Dutch Approved Stallions came from this line: Djurre 284, Doede `178, Ludse 305 and Tsjertk 328.

Regina’s’ ancestral mother line includes a number of impressive mares. Wietsche could pride herself on having the best breeding group. Of her seven daughters, two were designated model and five star. Wijkje continued along these lines being awarded with the best breeding group awards in 1974, 1975 and 1977. Her daughters followed suit! When Wijkje died in 1992 she left behind 2 approved stallions, three model daughters and six star daughters. Several of Wijkje’s offspring took championships as show horses in 1982, 1983 and 1984. Several of her granddaughters reached Z-2 dressage level.

Regina will continue her ancestral legacy, proving herself in the arena and as an award producing mother. Regina was imported from the Netherlands when she was 4 years old in 2002 at which time she acquired the confided “Ster” designation at the country’s largest keuring.

Criteria for designation as Star requires the horse demonstrate to the judges:

  1. conformation meeting the breeding objective of the FPS (see Section 2.1., including sub sections);
  2. totally correct movement;
  3. the walk must be straight, powerful and flexible, with good reach from the shoulder while the hind quarters swing forward with power;
  4. the trot should be a reaching and forward movement with power from the hind quarters and flexion in the hock; it should be elevated and light-footed with a moment of suspension; there should be no winging, paddling or interfering;

We acquired Regina in the Spring of 2006, at which time she came up to Mackinac Island within weeks after her arrival. At 15 – 3 hands tall She is an intelligent, alert mare, adjusting to Mackinac Island's equine challenges in stride. An impressive light mover, she shows powerful forward movement with normal knee action and an active use of her hindquarters.

Regina has been in the spotlight and in show rings often. In 2007 she competed at her first schooling dressage show, winning at training level with scores above 68%. That summer at the Mackinac Island Horse Show, Regina placed in every class & winning 1st place in showmanship & equitation classes. In October Regina participated in the Friesian World Show in Ohio as the lead horse for the Freestyle Drill Team with 7 other Friesians (6 from Mackinac Island), performing in unison at the opening ceremonies. In addition she competed in several English classes and never received less then 3rd place.

In 2008 Regina competed in “A” rated Dressage Shows (USDF & USEF) . She was Reserve Champion for Training/1st Level at Cooper Creek and at Waterloo she came in at 6th place overall at 1st level. Horse Illustrated showcased the Friesian Breed in the June 2008 Issue and Regina’s photo was part of the “centerfold” – representing the Friesian “ideal”…. Later that summer she would acquire English Grand Champion for the 2008 Mackinac Island Horse Show.

In 2009 Regina did not compete in any Rated shows however she performed at Mackinac Island’s 1st Annual Festival of the Horse in a Musical Freestyle and with her owner wearing an elaborate Renaissance Gown Regina once again showcased her adaptability, calm disposition and star talents in front of hundreds of onlookers, truly establishing herself as a poster horse for the Friesian breed.

In 2010 Regina proved herself at several rated shows prior to spending the summer on Mackinac Island. On the island she can be seen as a member of the Friesian Force Group (ABOVE) riding thru town in the early evening hours, performing at the Festival Of the Horse, July 21 – 24 and showing at the 40th Annual Mackinac Island Show on August 8th.

United States Dressage Federation sanctioned class "A" Show at Waterloo, June 5 & 6, 2010.

NanningRegina's 2011 Foal

This year Regina will be in foal for a 2011 baby. The sire will be Nanning 374, the same stallion that visited Mackinac Island in 2008 and is also featured in our video. With his phenomenal blood lines, Nanning possesses the superior size and conformation to develop offspring that are destined to excel in both riding and driving. He is a product of the legendary Teunis and Feitse lines and has positively influenced breeding programs in three continents. He has also produced an approved stallion of his own, the popular Botte 4I4. The outstanding Friesian traits he passes on to his offspring include long forelegs, a famous trademark neck structure, short back with strong top line, powerful hindquarters and incredible temperament.

BELOW: Nanning stands 16.3 hands and possesses the superior size and conformation to develop offspring that are destined to excel in both riding and driving.

RIGHT: Friesians are noted for their very long mane and tail. These are never cut and often reach the ground. We are certain Regina’s foal will be special. Once born, her foal will be available for ownership to the right family! Serious inquires only.
